The Building Safety Act 2022 comes into force today. While secondary legislation is still being drafted and having to go through the consultation channels, today marks the implementation of the Act with some key implications:

  1. Leaseholders are protected for the first time by new laws which prevent building safety bills for dangerous cladding from being sent their way

  2. Secretary of State writes to freeholders setting out their new legal responsibilities and makes clear there will be consequences if they do not comply

  3. Government to provide indemnity for building risk safety assessors to restore a proportionate, common sense approach.
