Clerkenwell Design Week 2025 was nothing short of spectacular—a whirlwind of groundbreaking ideas, vibrant installations, and captivating conversations that have set the tone for the future of design. As passionate participants and industry insiders, our team at ORSA was fortunate to immerse ourselves in this dynamic environment, where tradition met innovation and creativity knew no bounds.
Educational Insights and Networking Opportunities
The week was packed with more than just visual spectacles. It was a hub for learning, collaboration, and networking. From product launches to topical discussions, the event fostered a vibrant community of designers, architects, manufacturers, and innovators sharing ideas and forging connections that will shape the industry’s future.
A Feast for the Senses: Inspiring Talks and Forward-Thinking Discussions
One of the highlights was the series of inspiring design talks that challenged us to think differently. We eagerly attended the session titled ‘Evolve or Get Left Behind’ hosted by the London Fields Design School, with speakers Carl Fraser and Ben Taylor. They emphasised the importance of continuous learning in a rapidly changing industry. In an era where emerging technologies are transforming design workflows, upskilling isn’t just an option—it's a necessity. The talk delved into how embracing new tech-driven skills can unlock fresh opportunities, boost confidence, and propel careers forward. It was a compelling reminder that adaptability and lifelong learning are key to thriving in the digital age.

Immersive Installations: Art Meets Innovation
Christine and I, indulged in immersive installations and insightful tours that pushed the boundaries of conventional design. The captivating ‘A Week at the Knees’ installation by Alex Chinneck was a standout.

Situated within Charterhouse Square, this playful reimagining of Georgian architecture features a rippling brick façade, crafted from 320 metres of repurposed steel and bespoke materials. Chinneck’s mastery of architectural illusion—akin to his previous works like the ‘sliding house’ in Margate—continues to captivate audiences, challenging perceptions of space and structure.

Another jaw-dropping experience was Pixel Artworks’ ‘Feel the Pull’ magnetic installation inside the historic Clerkenwell House of Detention. This interactive artwork transforms the space into a living, breathing electromagnetic experience. Visitors responded physically and emotionally to the magnetic forces at play, making it more than just art—it was a visceral journey that blurred the line between observer and participant.

Exploring the Future of Workspaces
The OnOffice Workplace Tour offered a fascinating glimpse into the evolving landscape of office design. Led by Roddy Clarke, the tour took us through eight innovative showrooms, including Andreu World, Actiu, Steelcase, and others. The focus was on how workspace design is adapting to new demands—prioritising sensorial experiences, sustainability, modularity, and collaboration. It was eye-opening to see how furniture manufacturers are responding to the shift toward adaptable, circular, and sustainable solutions, reflecting the changing needs of modern professionals.
One standout piece was Jean Nouvel Seating Collection, 'tete-a-tete' at the Steelcase Tour, inspired by the organic shapes of pebbles that seamlessly flow into natural forms, creating an inviting office lounge setting. This design elegantly balances comfort and social interaction, reimagining the classic French face-to-face loveseat with a sculptural twist that encourages connection while also supporting solo work. The S-shaped form, reminiscent of 18th-century French salon furniture, evokes private moments amid bustling environments - perfect for large, open spaces like learning commons, busy lobbies, or airport lounges. This thoughtful design not only complements dynamic settings but also creates a sense of harmony amid activity.

Hands-On Creativity: Moleskine and Beyond
Creativity was in the air at the Moleskine Workshop, where attendees rediscovered the power of handwriting and drawing. These experiential sessions reminded us that sometimes, the simplest tools—like a pen and paper—can unlock profound ideas. The workshop space transformed into a canvas for personal expression, encouraging participants to leave their mark and tap into their innate creative potential.
A Week of Unforgettable Moments
Clerkenwell Design Week 2025 was more than an event—it was an experience. With vibrant parties, engaging conversations, and delicious food and drinks, the week fostered a sense of community and shared passion for design excellence. It’s clear that this gathering not only showcases the best of current trends but also paves the way for innovative futures.
In conclusion, from immersive art to cutting-edge workplace concepts and insightful industry talks, Clerkenwell Design Week 2025 proved once again that the heart of design beats strongest where creativity, technology, and collaboration intersect. As we reflect on this inspiring week, we’re excited to carry forward the ideas, connections, and innovations that will shape the next chapter of design.
The future of design is just getting started!
